Universal Postal Union
Universal Postal Union (UPU) is the second oldest international organization worldwide with 192 member countries and, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. UPU helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services by setting rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail, parcel and financial services volumes and improve quality of service for customers.
The Congress is the supreme authority of UPU and plenipotentiaries from all the member countries gather every four years to shape the future of the postal sector. As such, the Universal Postal Convention approved by the congress, which lays down the rules and regulations applicable to postal services and its operations, governs the International Postal Operations.
Maldives Post became a member of UPU in 1967 and ever since than participated the congress of UPU, which is held every 4 years.
Asia Pacific Postal Union
Asia Pacific Postal Union (APPU) is a Restricted Union as defined by Article 8 of the Universal Postal Union, serving to coordinate postal services in the region. Established in 1962, APPU consists of 32 member countries and have an important role in coordinating and facilitating the functioning of postal services at the regional level.
UPU works with APPU to develop and implement the world postal strategy through well-defined regional development plans and, is committed to improving synergies and strengthening cooperation, including that of technical assistance.
Maldives Post became a member of APPU in 1982 and participated the regional projects aimed to improve the postal services in Maldives.
Asia Pacific Postal College
Asia Pacific Postal College (APPC) established in 1970 provides wide range of courses that reflect the changing needs of the postal sector, which include courses on postal sector policy and regulation.
APPC aims to be a highly valued center of excellence for all postal and related training for the Asia Pacific region and beyond. Moreover, to educate, inspire and motivate all attendees to the college through practical and innovative training methods that will equip them to meet the future challenges of the postal sector.
Employees of Maldives Post participate in the courses conducted in APPC to ensure that the employees possess skillfulness needed to perform their jobs and demonstrate the required proficiencies in their assigned work
Asia Pacific Post
Asia Pacific Post is technical body of APPU that play role of technical advisor to APPU members.
By giving the APP the mandate to act as a forum specifically for the designated operators of APPU member countries as opposed to their governments, of course, except in circumstances where such designated operators were also government departments.
By mandating the APP to demonstrate leadership and advocacy for the postal sector in the Asia Pacific with a clear focus on strengthening the commercial outlook of the postal sector and its relevance to varied stakeholders.
EMS Cooperative is a body of the Universal Postal Union with more than 180-member countries who work together to provide EMS – Express Mail Service – the fastest cross-border postal product. The EMS Cooperative promotes cooperation between its member posts to provide customers with a high quality, competitive Express Mail Service (EMS) worldwide.
